What sports do you do?
I snowboard and surf.
How/why
did you decide to focus on girls in action sports? Because
women don't get enough exposure in action videos.
Where
do you think girls in action sports stand in media today?
I think it's growing rapidly. I'd like to
think we are helping to start a new market in women
and film.
Do
you think there are more girls interested in action
sports now than when you started your work?
Definitely. I can see it happening.
How
do sport companies respond to your work?
They are stoked. We are getting a lot of support from
companies like Roxy, Vans, Rossignol Chorus, and Burton
Snowboards. They are helping a lot to push women's surfing
and
snowboarding.
What
projects have you directed/produced for commercial entities?
(music videos, TV commercials) Non yet but I would like
to try it out.
What
does the near future hold for girls in action sport?
A lot. More trips, more filming, more TV segments, more
sponsorship dollars. I think the girls will start to
realize that they do have power in alternative sports,
and to take charge.

Hi
Sky!
the XGIRLSPORT team has been hearing a lot about
your new film
"7 Girls".
What is it about? Who are the girls?
|
 |
|
Sky
Rondonet: "7
Girls
is a little bit of everything. It's got location segments from
Fiji to Hawaii to Indonesia. There are athlete segments with
action, lifestyle, and interviews. There are contest segments
documenting
the Vans Triple Crown and the Roxy Pro
in Fiji. Basically we put all our adventures from this past
year into 35 minutes of non stop entertainment.
It's pretty awesome.
The Girls are: Layne Beachley,
Serena Brooke, Heather Clark, Keala Kennelly, Megan Abubo, Rochelle
Ballard, Sophia Mulanovich, and
other top pro female surfers from around the world."
Where did you film? We filmed
in Hawaii, Fiji, and Tahiti as well as purchased footage from
Indonesia, Florida, California, and other spots.
How long did it take to make the film?
It took about a year of filming and a month of editing with
marketing, sponsorship, and distribution in between.
What makes this film new? It's
a female perspective on women's surfing. I
think you'll get a more personal look at the athletes than you
would from a male filmer. The girls really open up to us and
show us what they are really all about.
What is your favorite aspect about
this project? I love
getting to know the girls on a more personal level. I also enjoy
the cultural experiences I have traveling to different countries.
Will we be able to see features of it on any upcoming tv/cable
shows?
Bluetorch TV, Resort Sports Network, and Core Culture on Fox
will be showing
7 Girls in future.
When & where will it be available?
7 Girls will be available July 15th. You can purchase it straight
from us by calling XX
Productions at 530-546-9283 or at a surf shop in your area.

Tiffany
Sabol and Sky Rondenet met in 1996. They were both snowboarding
full time in Lake Tahoe, California competing in extreme
and boardercross competitions. They came together through
passions of helping to push women's snowboarding to the
next level. and founded XXProductions
a film company that focused 100% on women athletes. They
bought all their own camera gear, funded everything on
their own, and hit the beaches and slopes. Their movies
are: Empress"(1999) and "Our Turn" (2000).
"7 Girls" premiers in August and an all girl
snowboard movie "Hardly Angels" is on the way
for winter 2001!!

History
of Sky & Film....
|
| |
where
did your interest in film start? When I saw
the all girl surf movie
Blue Crush it really effected me. I watched it over
and over dreaming that I could one day do something
like that. I wanted to have that lifestyle filming and
traveling with the best women's surfers in the world.
I have Bill Ballard to thank. He rules!
how
did you get into making films yourself? My
girlfriends were making an all girl multi sport film
and asked for my help. I was snowboarding professionally
and knew a lot about getting sponsors and marketing.
Somehow I ended up becoming a partner and kept going
from there.
What
was the first footage you ever recorded?
I filmed professional
snowboarder Nicola Thost at Mt. Hood and my footage
came out beautifully. That really got me fired up to
keep filming and progressing.
Do
you remember the day? Oh yah. We kept missing
each other all day. I'd go to one snowboard camp that
she left minutes before. Then I'd go to another one
and someone would tell me she just left. Finally we
met up and she rode pipe and pretty much blew me away.
I never saw a girl go so big ever. Filming her was easy
because she's so good.
How
many films/videos have you made? The first
movie I made with two other girls and we bought all
the footage for the movie. It was a thirty minute film
with surf, snow, skate. The second movie OUR
TURN I made with Tiffany
Sabol. We filmed all our own footage with all the
top pro women athletes. It turned out pretty well and
won a couple awards. This year Tiff and I are finishing
an all girl surf movie and an all girl snowboard movie
filmed, produced, and edited by us. We try to work with
all the top pro women athletes and up and comers.
Your
main theme seems to be girls in action sports, what
other themes have you filmed?
We haven't really filmed any other themes. That is our
main focus.
Do
you use a script or story line when creating your films?
No. We try to capture the best action footage
we can and work around that. We would like to delve
into more script and story lines down the road.
Which
movies have influenced your work/point of view?
Thicker Than Water and Blue Crush
